Not per my posting 24 hours ago that the F.Zuiko is identified as having
a close focus aberration correction mechanism. Sources: the original 30
ring Olympus Sales Information File and The Olympus Way. What we need
is a primary source that says the earliest SC *doesn't* have it.

<< My 1973 'Olympus Manual for Zuiko Interchangeable Lens Group' it
clearly states for the 85/f2 (6 elements in 4 groups - the original)
that it has 'A built-in automatic correction mechanism for aberrations
at close focusing distances'. >>

Bingo, it's settled! Thanks Roger. All of us with 85mm f/2 SC lenses
(myself included at 1001xx) can rejoice.

<< That conflicts with the 1987 Olympus OM System brochure I have. The
floating element designation is omitted from the 90/2 on the lens
list and is also omitted in the lens description both in the telephoto
section and in the macro section. That feature is included in the
descriptions of the 50mm macro lenses , the 100/2. Even though
designated as having the element on the list, the descriptions for the
21/2, 85/2 do not mention the floating element. >>

Write it off as another error in the marketing department. Errors of
ommission are quite common in the Olympus literature. It sometimes
seems like they were shooting themselves in the foot by not hyping or
consistently hyping features the competition was hyping. Like "apo" for
the 250mm f/2.
