Now I know its true purpose!
Always wondered what that was for in my OM-4. First thing I noticed the first time I loaded film in it. My OM-1n, OM-10 and OM-2S don't have it. The only purpose I could think of for it was helping keep film started on the takeup spool when loading it, but would have expected the others to have something similar, especially the OM-2S.
