That's similar to my process except that I keep the long dimension the same
for either format. So for landscape, the long dimension would be the
horizontal dimension and will be at say, 300. With portrait, it's the
vertical dimension at 300. I've got all of the images being generated by a
script so this isn't a big deal (and it's very handy because I do up a
number of different sizes of each image).

Personally, I don't like progressive jpegs, so I just use the normal ones. I
don't really like the out of focus to in focus thing, I prefer just the
loading from the top thing (particularly for big graphics, I find it at
least SEEMS to load faster that way).
