Gregg,

Did you post any translation of another Ebay user pairing their contact info and Ebay ID on this list?

I see from the archives searched from Google that there was a thread entitled: Subject: Re: [OM] on ebay - post ebay nicknames? on May 2, 2000 that you participated in where you posted a translation of several OM list members' Ebay and email addresses. I bet this is the source of the punitive strike from Ebay. Their search bot probably turned up a hit on Ebay and Nickname. Look here for that thread:: http://zuiko.sls.bc.ca/swright/archives/2000/msg09996.html. It seems like a stretch to ding you for a posting to a private list that is publically archived.

Is this Ebay tactic a NEW rule? It would seem so, given their new hidden-email policy. But to make it retroactive would be ludicrous, besides illegal. It doesn't seem right to prevent the posting of translations during the time when they were freely available from any Ebay user by just asking.

Well, now they've done it! I replied to their last message asking for what the specifics were to my infraction of posting information on another individual to the web. They replied with a generic form refering to the faqs. When I asked for more details they replied with this message:

Dear golftooter (giverson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx),

We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended due to the violation of our site policy below:

* Publishing the contact information of another user on ANY online public area.

Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you may owe to eBay.

Respectfully,

Safeharbor Department
eBay, Inc.

I still don't know what I am supposed to have done, and really don't know that I did anything.

Gregg
