Sure, BUT they are larger and will partly or nearly completely block the
autofocus assist lamp. The Rebel 2000 is so slimmed down it can't really
handle larger lenses, nor can the Nikon N65.  Read up on them in the
latest Popular Photography, noting esp. Keppler's column.

I just posted an update on the Olympus OM Lens Tests page. It has two
plastic Nikon AF zooms in the Competing Camera Manufacturers section.
Pretty poor performance to be carrying the Nikkor name. Note they were
tested on a manual focus body.  I won't test any Canon EF lenses because
the viewfinders on EOS cameras aren't optimized for manual focusing.
