Jeremy-I shot all through my youth with  200mm f4 Zuiko and a 2x converter.  
I have some very good pictures and some ok ones.
My thoughts are with converters, if you need to add a 2x, it is time for a 
bigger lens.
If you shoot only 5% with one let's say, you can't beat it.
Just don't rely on it heavily.
