Just observing some of the topics at hand ...

I reckon the slower/smaller lenses often best their faster stablemates - I
recently offloaded a 24 f2 to an eager buyer on this list, all the while
knowing that the 2.8 is, close-focussing capabilities excluded, a better
lens. The buyer got a VERY fair price in the current market context,
however, so I felt no shame in doing such and judging by their response or
lack thereof, they have been happy with the transaction also.

On the other hand, my multi-coated 50 1.4 is about 1,000,000 times sharper,
contrasty and reliable than the 50 1.8 (mc SN 3,000,000 +) that I recently
sold. In that particular case, I didn't care about the extra weight/size -
the 50 1.4 is a stunner for low light work.

As far as the 4Ti performing in low temperatures goes, I shot with it
comfortably for about 2 minutes in the middle of a January blizzard in
Prague. I got the shot I wanted, but only because I'd pre-visualized it and
set up the camera. It's why I want an OM-3 so bad. Here in Western Australia
even the coldest winter night can't trouble the 4Ti, but I'm addicted to
travelling, love the outdoors and ambient light (that's why spot meters were
invented) so I know I'm gonna need a mechanical back-up to replace the
recently sold (yes, I know it's mechanical) OM2n.

And I have truly fallen off the wagon - picked up an EXC++ XA rangefinder
the other day. I've yet to get a roll back, but Gary Reese's tests
nothwithstanding, I've only heard fabulous things about the (6 element?) 35
2.8 lens and I LOOOVVEE the portability and handling!!! Street candids have
never been easier. I AM Henri Cartier Bresson, but better equipped ... (M6's
may pack some great glass, but the film loading and handling of the Leica
sucks). The shutter on the XA is a whisper quiet marvel - almost makes me
want to abandon SLR's for good, if I didn't own one of the best designs ever
made - the OM4Ti. Sigh.

This condition never ebbs, does it.

Reuben
