W*hich lens/camera?

If an OM...

First, be sure your eye is centered in the eyepiece -- if it's off to
one side or the other, the split image won't line up properly.

Next, be sure you're focusing on something several miles/km away --
"down the street" is fine with some finders, but OM's require more
distance than others.

If the finder's still off, have you tried different lenses, and do they all
appear off? If so, suspect your camera. If it's only one lens, that
narrows things down, of course! But be aware that some Zuiko's (the larger
tele's) are designed so the distance ring turns past the infinity mark -
that's to provide for expansion/contraction.

Check the distance ring to see if it's loose -- the set screws that hold
them tight sometimes work loose, allowing the ring to slip. Then grip the
lens firmly and shake it up and down -- listen for any rattling sounds.
Some noise is normal -- there's levers and such that must move about -- but
if you hear a sound like a "clack", there could be a loose lens element
inside.

If the problem is in the body, it could be due to a number of faults -- a
loose focusing screen, the mirror may be out of adjustment, or it may be a
more serious problem. Best thing is to have it checked over -- it could be
very easy to fix, or very hard, there's seldom a middle ground.
