I know of the lens test and I like to use those as a great reference, but
what about the best "overall" lens?  I am not into too much distortion-is a
24mm f2 MC Zuiko tops?

I'd second that. There's virtually no barrel distortion with the 28/2.0, and it's abilities to sharply image are excellent. It's one of my "standard" lenses -- always on one of my OM bodies.
