While you're checking around look into the Photek brand - their Softlighter
umbrellas are unique, combining a reflecive umbrella with a diffuser for a
softer light than either an umbrella or softbox alone. The 36" model runs
$65 through B&H, 60" is $85, 40" somewhere in between. The Photek design is
what inspired my pie pan reflector/white styrofoam plate diffuser doodad for
my flash units.
Also, because the Photek units combine reflection and diffusion in an
umbrella design, it doesn't need the depth, bulk and heavier light stand of
a normal softbox. You can't get away with using flimsy light stands with a
big softbox.
