Hi,
A Vivitar 2x macro teleconverter is a good choice (less than $50), it
does a great job both as a teleconv. and as a macro (it has a separate
"focusing" ring for macro settings). You can get 1:1 macro with any
lens, even witha humble 50 f1.8 you get a decent 100 f3.6 macro, which
is not bad at all. It gives you good flexibility, as you can attach a
longer lens to it (Zuiko 135mm is great for that) to be able to do macro
shots without sticking the front element right into your subject.
Performance for real life subjects is very good, you may notice problems
if you photograph flat detailed objects (maps or other reproductions,
etc.) If you already have a macro lens it will enhance its magnification
and allow you to do larger than life macro work.
And if you don't have one yet - a tripod is _essential_ for any macro
work.
        Hope this helps
        Pawel
