Mamiya has just started bringing in their line of carbon fiber tripods. There is some information at http://www.promaster.com

I asked for advice - then went out and bought a Hakuba. 4-section leg
version; smaller than what you are asking for, but I bought it specifically
for travel. I'm pleased with it. Hakuba now owns Velbon, so the two brands
are essentially the same, it is said.

I think someone commented on these a few months ago but I cant' remember
the
findings. I'm looking for something similar to bogen 3021 in size but the
 > weight of a bogen 3001. I can get the gizto for about the same price as
the
bogen and then there is the velborne and a,b,c!!!

 Any suggestions ?
