I wouldn't agree with that at all - otherwise it would work in total
darkness and fog itself if you were to put it in your pocket.  What it
picks up is the just-invisible infra red parts of the available light.
There is actually quite a lot of this in sunlight.  You don't tend to
see much use of IR film with tungsten light, though, do you?  I'd have
thought that would have enough near-ir to make some interesting images.
