I second the Radio Shack idea.  A year ago or so I got a little aerosol can
of electronic tuner cleaner/lub, and it works famously.

I hear ya. I liked the tuner cleaner idea someone else mentioned, 
although with digital tuners and even potentiometers, it's getting 
harder to find.

You might try Radio Shack, and when that doesn't work, look for an 
older TV repair shop -- the one with the weathered signs and the 
wood-cabinet, round CRT TV in the front window. :-)

If that doesn't work, and you don't want to take it apart, I'm afraid 
you'll have to send it to John.
