Using the extension tubes with a normal (non-macro) lens, should I
set focus to near or infinity for best results?
Unless your lens has a "floating element group" (the fast wides), it
really doesn't matter. For a floating element lens, set it to minimum
focus for best results.
What affect will this
have on actual depth of field?
None. DOF is strictly a function of aperture and distance.
