It's just a coincidence that removing the battery closes the shutter as the
battery has no control over the shutter. Curtain speeds are probably off.
The first curtain does not have enough punch to release the second curtain.
Removing the battery jars the mech just enough to trip it.

| My Om1 has developed a rather interesting/perplexing problem: when the
| shutter button is engaged, the shutter curtains open and the mirror
| slaps up as it should. However, neither the curtains nor the mirror

| normal position is to remove the battery; nothing else works.
