Hi Michael::

<< Should I be concerned about its optical quality? Are the silver nose
85/2s as good as the later versions? >>

Have you looked over my lens test page at:
http://members.aol.com/olympusom/lenstests/default.htm

I think, but can't be sure, that the 7 condition example for my
single-coated tests is an early 85mm f/2 without floating elements
(serial number 100195). It is my lens and someday I'll have it
disassembled to tell for sure (unless someone wants to confirm it based
on the number). The 9 condition example came from a list subscriber. You
hoo, anyone remember if it was yours? My guess is that it is a
redesigned floating element model.

So, based on my data and assumptions, the SQF differences between any
model of 85mm f/2 at 1:40 magnification is satistically insignificant.
Given that the fungus removal in my 7 condition example removed some of
the coating, I wouldn't venture a guess on the contrast differences,
either, which are a part of the overall SQF grade.

BTW, all three lenses were tested with an OM-1. They probably would
perform better with mirror and diaphragm prefire on an OM-2S/OM-4(T)(i)
class body, esp. wide open.
