OK folks, this is a *bad* idea. I tried it last night and proved it to
myself. The problem is that without the detent, the spring loaded f
stop coupling ring in the camera will move the f stop setting on the
lens. This would be a royal pain to be sure. So, I put the ball bearing
detent back and everything is OK now.
