I wish it went as wide as 24. My favorite walking around lens before it 
stopped zooming was a Vivitar Series I 24-70. The wide end was sharp and 
contrasty albeit with some vignetting. The long end was contrasty but 
sufficient. I've seen only one used since mine broke.  I think they are all 
broken by now.  But if anyone is interest I know of a couple new-old stock 
Vivitar SI 24-70 lens for about $200 each.
