Yeah, it  is uncomfortable to hold  compared to factory covering.
"Ruggedized" was the phrase, tha's it.

| Could even be late 70s. When I got my OM-1 (since stolen)
| in summer 1978, they were offering that "ruggedized" covering for
| eitherthe same price or a $10 increment. I didn't get it because it
| didn't seem to offer any protection and was also slightly harder to
| hold (if memory serves me correctly, it was some kind of almost-hard
| plastic rather than rubber, and a little bit slick, so that damp
| fingers would be right out).
