Barry,

The point I am trying to make about used cars selling at dealerships versus
used cameras (nice ones like the OM-1's) being traded in for an easier to
use point and shoot.

I know for a fact the issue on trade-ins on used cars to dealerships. That
is were they make most of their money. There is the invoice and holdback
money the get kicked back by the Major Manufacturer's. Then there is money
to be made on the finance and the undercoating insurance etc, etc.

I once took in an Olympus OM-4 to a National Camera Retailer that resides in
a mall. I asked them how much trade in value they would give me for the
OM-4 for a trade-in for a point and shoot camera. They offered me $50.00
for it. (This is a true story) I asked what they would do with the camera
and he said they ship them to their used camera dealership up North wherever
that may be.

They point I am trying to make is with the advent of ebay and it has been
well noted by the testimonials of many that have written " of the great
deals to have been had, before everyone discovered ebay" which drove up the
prices of used camera stuff.

Why would a customer sell his camera for $50.00 at the mall when he could
sell it for $300.00 on ebay and word gets around.

Now the used cameras stop coming in and profit margins go down. You are
right about competition. But isn't that what competition is all about,
putting the other guy out of business. ( I am kidding)

I am just making conversation and opinion and wondered what everyone else
thought.

Take care,

Sam....
