Dear All,

[I realise there is no little OM content here but this is about
Olympus cameras nevertheless.] I have developed an interest in
the old Olympus rangefinder cameras, that were on the market 20+
years ago or so, particularly the RC, RD and 35SP. I might seek
out a good used example of one of them but I don't know which,
if any, would be a good buy. So, what I would like to ask is if
anyone has any experience with any of these Olympus RFs and can
tell me whether they are good, do they work well and what are
their strengths and weaknesses?

Although I have an OM-2S with various lenses and T32 flash, I
find it handy to carry a compact 35mm camera. I've been using a
Leica Minizoom (35-70 zoom lens) for the last 2 years, which
seems nicely built, has a very fast zoom action, gives very
sharp pictures of good colour contrast and has a number of
useful modes. I haven't experienced any operational problems
with it but it does have quite a slow lens (about f5.6 at 35mm
focal length setting), fully automatic focusing and program
exposure that doesn't give any indication of the aperture and
shutter speed combination being used. I'd like to have more
control!

The things that would appeal to me are a wide aperture lens of
fixed focal length (around 35 - 40 mm) and good quality, manual
exposure control (or a good auto exposure with full manual
override option) and flash synchronisation at all shutter
speeds. I'm not attracted to built-in flash, autofocus or zoom
lenses. The Olyumpus RC, RD and 35SP seem to be ideal for my
purposes, at least on paper, but what are they really like?

I'd be glad of any advice.

Ray
