It should operate by simply switching it to Manual.  The overhaul costs for 
this model are very steep.

Sounds like another thing that needs to be adjusted in a complete overhaul.  
I'm not sure this buy was worth it, especially considering what a Excellent 
condition or better camera sells for.  But then, you wouldn't be the first 
one writing to this list with problems in a bargain purchase.  Buyer beware.
