Thanks to all for your replies on this. I spoke with my friend who is
head of maintenance at the lab last night. Apparently due to the
operation and design type of E6 machine they use there is indeed a frame
"clipped" at the end. They like to call it a "half frame" but I beg to
differ.

The "cure" is apparently to stop shooting at 36 or 37 and rewind then.
