With each new camera I've bought I've looked to see where the strap rings
could contact the body and have stuck a small piece of tape over each area.
I remove it every couple of years, clean off any stickiness and replace with
new tape. My OM-2n still looks like new (above the slightly scuffed base).
It was too late to prevent brassing with my used OM-40, but two bits of
black tape *hide* most of it.
