"Royal Gold 100" is part of the "Select Series." The other stuff is marked
plain "Gold 100" and if this is what you were referring to, yes the "Royal
Gold" is a grade better than "Gold." I would put the Select Series color
negative films between run-of-the-mill consumer and professional.

All of the Kodak "consumer" slide films (Kodachrome and Elitechrome) are
part of their Select Series as is the new C-41 process "Black and White + 400".

Translation of the two ISO 100 Elitechrome films to the pro versions:
"Elitechrome 100" = "E100S" and the newer "Elitechrome 100 Extra Color" =
"E100VS."

Saw a couple postings about Kodak's professional Ektar 25. If it still
exists, it *is* the highest resolution color negative ever made. Indeed,
it is so high in resolution the limiting factor will be your lens(es) in
conjuction with your camera body. However, I could not find any mention of
it on Kodak's U.S. web site, nor could I find it listed in the B&H catalog.
My original remarks were based on what I could find on the Kodak and Fuji
web sites (www.kodak.com and www.fujifilm.com).

BTW, *the* highest resolution film I know of in 135 size is Kodak's
Technical Pan 25. However it is B&W negative, not color. You *could* use
tricolor filters and merge things back together if you *carefully* used a
rigid, sturdy tripod, cable release and slip-on filters. This is one of
the methods used by astrophotographers for getting deep space color prints
using B&W films.
