Hmmm, the June 1999 B&H catalog has the Zuiko 50/1.8 at US$119.95, and
the 50/1.2 -- at $369.95. Maybe the listing in Jessop's is indeed a
misprint.

As to the other makes: the Nikkor 50/1.8 AI-S is also $119.95 (this
must be the newer plasticky version which Nikon first introduced with
the N2000 body); Pentax 50/1.7 FA is $139.95; Carl Zeiss 50/1.7 is CALL
(ooh, I like that one!).

At a modest $72.95, the Minolta MD 50/1.7 is the only real budget lens,
and it's an excellent performer too! Kudos to the guys from Osaka.

The true bargain of the bunch is the Leica R 50/2 lens, priced at $945.
A generous $200 manufacturer's rebate is offered. Gee, I'll get a pair!
:-) :-)

Of course, true Leica "feinschmäckers" won't settle for less than a
superb Leica M standard lens. Those start at the very reasonable $945
for the modest 50/2.8, and go all the way up to $2895 for the "must have"
50/1.0. I hear the Sultan of Brunei has several of the latter, made
by a special order -- in pure gold, naturally... Oh well, I guess
nothing exceeds like excess :-) :-)

On my way to stock up on 50/1.8 Zuikos before it's too late,
