[OM] UV lenses; shutter damage; digital image quality

"If UV rays can pass through the lenses why Nikon has an (expensive) UV lens
made of crystal elements?"

Because it's _corrected_ for UV. Conventional lenses are intended for UV
photography and aren't corrected for it.

The focal-plane shutter in an SLR cannot be damaged by sunlight. The mirror
protects it. The focal-plane shutter in RF cameras is a different matter. It has
no protection.

The quality of digital cameras will _never_ match the quality of film, unless
there is a major increase in the size of sensors and a major reduction in the
cost/pixel.
