"What happens when you put a multicoated filter (i.e. B+W) on a single
coated lens? Are the results multicoated or single-coated?"

A filter cannot magically change a single-coated lens into a multicoated
lens. The lens is still single-coated, and "behaves" accordingly.

The filter slightly degrades the image quality and ghosting/flare
characteristics of the lens. If the filter is multicoated, the flare
characteristics are degraded slightly _less_ than they would if the
filter were single-coated.
