The original OM-3 (not the Ti) suffers from similar battery drain problems
als the original OM-4. When you leave the batteries in day and night, and
maybe also play a lot with the multi spot meter and the viewfinder
illuminator you better be prepared to change batteries every three months or
so. Clear differences are of course that the 3 will be still functional at
all shutter speeds w/o batteries, and that you are not tempted to play with
the battery-swallowing self-timer...
Simple precautions that I consistently take for both my OM-3 and OM-4 (not
the Ti): remove the batteries when you're not going to use the camera for
several hours, use the battery-consuming functions sparely, and always carry
spare batteries. When you can live with that both cameras are great.

BTW, referring to another but related thread that is currently running,
probably the *best* camery for arctic regions like the US and Canada :-) is
not the OM-1(n) or the OM-3(Ti) but the good old OM-2(n) combined with the
3V. Battery Holder 1 (which I happened to buy two weeks ago :-).
The first (and last ?) camera that will keep on working *and* provide
metering at -20, -30 degrees Celcius :-).
Can't wait until The Dreaded Winter strikes the Netherlands and it once more
becomes time for the Friese Elfstedentocht (famous Dutch skating event for
masochists and other mad[wo]men).
