As I already have pointed out to Richard privately, it doesn't make
much sense to buy a voltage converter or transformer if you can simply
change the lightbulb and fix another plug....

About voltages: we have had all kind of voltages in Europe, but they
are growing toward each other now. The UK used to have 240 volts,
continental Europe started on 120 and later had 220 volts. All
countries (including the UK) are working slowly and gradually toward a
230 volt/ 50 Hz standard.
