Olympus Shooters:

I have an OM-2n, winder 2, and Vivitar 4600 flash with Olympus dedicated
module for TTL. The shoe 4 is in good shape: no more than a hint of a crack
in the usual place. With the rig all powered up, camera on auto, and ready
to shoot in TTL mode, I've had occasional non-fires with the flash. The
flash is indeed ready to go, but I push the button on the winder, the
mirror pops up and the shutter opens for several seconds because the flash
does not fire. I get a very long handheld picture of my daughter wiggling.

I finished a roll with several dead flash shots of this nature among about
7 or 8. I practiced a little without film and discovered I could get
repeated non-fires if I pressed the winder button down only part of the
way. If I make sure to push the button down all the way, the flash fires
quite predictably. If I remove the winder, the flash also fires reliably
1000f the time.

OK, so now I know what to do! But can anyone explain why pressing the
winder button far enough to trip the shutter and to wind may not be enough
to cause the flash to fire? Is the winder defective in some way?

Thanks,

Joel
