Can I have a little more clarification on this. All along, I thought
that the X/FP switch only affects the "flash socket" and not the hot
shoe. When I bought the used OM-1, it didn't come with a manual, so
I called Olympus and they sent me a free copy of the OM-1n manual.
Here is what the OM-1n manual (0480) has to say about the little
switch (appearing in the section of "Flash other than the T32/T20"):

NOTE: Mounting the electronic flash unit to the accessory shoe
automatically completes the "X" synchro circuit. However, there
are some flash units which do not fire unless the selector is set
    to "X".

So it looks like the OM-1 functions differently than the OM-1n (the
FAQ mentioned this difference, but I didn't know this is what it was
talking about until now). It looks like by the time the OM-1n came
out, they severed the link between the switch and the hot shoe. I'd
assume the OM-2n works like the OM-1n, whereby mounting a flash sets
it to "X" sync automatically. What about the OM-2? Does the X/FP
switch also affect the hot shoe in the same manner as the OM-1?
Thanks.
