Hi all:
Just got back from Photographica '98, a used camera show here in the
Boston area. While there were a few good deals, most Oly things (even
after bargaining) were a bit high. Here are some examples:

        21/2.0 (9) marked $675
        21/3.5 (8) marked $375 (not MC)
        35/2.8 PC (9) marked $675 ($600 after bargaining)
        100/2.8 (8) marked $100 ($80 after bargaining) (not MC)
        180/2.8 (7) marked $650
        600/6.5 (9) marked $1500
        M-1 (10-) marked $650 (but without orig. M-series lens)
        OM-2 Chr (8) marked $89 AS-IS ($50 after bargaining)
        OM-2N Black (7) marked $129 ($70 after bargaining)
        OM-2N Chr (9) marked $220
        OM-3 (7) marked $695
        OM-4T Black (9) marked $550 ($490 after bargaining)
        OM-4T Champ (7) marked $569
        XA w/ A16 (10-) marked $120
        Vari-Magni (9) marked $100 (no case)
        T32 marked $125

Hunt's had several OM-2N's and -2S's, there were about 10 OM-10's at the
show, a few 24/2.8's, a 135 macro, a few Winder 2's, and so on. I
stopped after I had bought the -2N black (works fine, just really
brassed), an Olympus PS-200 flash (a small GN 14 (meters) manual only
flash) and some tripod hotshoe adapters, tabletop tripods, and PC cords
to use on my Observatory photography project.

Finally, one vendor had PX625 batteries (Varta) for $4/ea.

Overall, I'd say 1/2 to 3/4ths of the dealers had at least one Oly item,
but the selection of "exotic" things was small, and no dealer (except
Hunt's, which is 20-30 mins from my house, anyway) had a very wide
selection. I was hoping for some T-32 filter sets, Autoconnector
T-20's (which are useful with other maker's Oly dedicated flashes to
get a T-cord connection), a 16/3.5 fisheye, and a loose A-16 flash for
my XA.

Funny story: Both the OM-2N (which I bought) and the OM-4T Black (which
I didn't, but am still thinking about getting if it is still there
tomorrow) had 50/1.8 lenses on them. In both cases, I asked what the
price would be without the lens. And both dealers quoted me decent
prices, but insisted that "the price is the same with or without the
lens. Please take the lens". Oh, what will Clive say when he hears
the low regard with which dealers hold his beloved 50/1.8! :)

Maybe I just expect too much :)

Cheers,
--Lee
