[OM] OM4 display question

Subject: [OM] OM4 display question

Hi, all :-)
I've recently acquired an OM4 in excellent condition. The leftmost illuminated
segment of the viewfinder display bar constantly flickers at a random
frequency, making the shutter speed display appear to oscillate back and forth
by 1/3 of a stop. I queried John Hermanson privately about the matter, and he
says that this is considered normal in this model, according to the Olympus
service manual. (Thanks for the info, John) I have no previous experience with
the OM4, but my OM2S doesn't exhibit this behavior. I have an OM3 that I
haven't used much, and upon checking it, I do get an occasional flicker, but
not continuously like this 4 does. I have found in the "part B" manual from
the OM3 that this phenomenon can sometimes occur with that model, also.
I'm just curious about others' experience with this model in regards to the
viewfinder display. It's supposedly normal, and I guess I'll get used to it.
Attn RLH: This might be a tidbit for the FAQ. Your recent effort to get
literature sightings into the FAQ has been a great service. Thanks from all of
us!
Thanks to all who participate in my "survey."
Greg
