Hi all:
Good thing I just outfitted my gal with lots of bargain priced, used Canon FD
equipment! I may have to get a T-90 body to put to rest my desire for an
OM-4T. We now have a 20 mm f/2.8 FD at only $37.00, a 300 mm f/5.6 FD at only
$40, plus all sorts of other lenses at almost as good prices. It rounds out
the "lesser need" gaps in my OLY lineup. I rarely see reasonably priced OM
equipment, better than an OM-10 w/ 50 mm f/1.8, here in Las Vegas, save for
the most common lenses. It is amazing that my 25 year collection of OM
equipment could be nearly duplicated in Canon over the last few months with a
few good buys at 1/5 to 1/10 the prices I've paid for the Oly stuff!
I'm afraid that when a company gets greedy my loyalities wane. It sure has
been interesting seeing the course of history of these two lines of equipment.
I almost went with Canon A/FD line in the early 70's, but I priced out my
ideal set-up and Olympus was the price/performace champ. Well, it sure has
been nice to have OLY keep some stuff in production, especially since it took
25 years to get that "ideal set-up!" But I've seen the light and that is to
have parallel systems by two different manufacturers and play them against
each other. Given that Canon FD has a hot used market here, I might even be
able to trade hot FD's for slower moving Zuiko's, until everyone gets the idea
that the OM line is collectable and prices/value prohibit their use for actual
field photography.
