Hi Matthew:

Sounds like a great step up. It is valuable for pleasing perspectives in
portraits and for pulling in distant objects in landscapes. The lens speed
will suit you well for interior work and it's quite compact. You'd be hard
pressed to find a flaw with the design.

Following the 1.4x rule, your existing 28 mm is as much a step away from 50 mm
as a 100 mm is. If you start finding that you need focal lengths to bridge
the gap, a 35-70 zoom would be a good 4th lens. Everyone shoots differently,
but for me this would cover about 2/3rds of my shooting. A 50 mm macro would
add another 20%.

Matthew: Shaw uses zooms for macro work? Gee, he must have got lazy or
something.
