The OM cameras were always an additional bussines to the main bussines
of selling endoskops and microskops for Olympus. Today more video
cameras and ccd chips replace the OM bodys. That is was a Olympus
representativ once told me. My personal observation is, that my doctor
has replaced his OM-2SP bodys on the microskops with video cameras and
video printers.
This week i read an article in the Spiegel magazin which reports, that
Olympus has developed in cooperatin with ´the Canadian company Xillix an
endoskop which enables doctors to spot lung cancer much earlier then
before, in an phase were it might be operated with much more success.
It works mostly with laser ilumination and high dynamic range ccd video
cameras.
