I end up underrating Velvia by 1/3 stop. Sensia/Provia seems to do very
well right on for me.

I thought about that, but the smoke shouldn't have gotten into the upper
atmosphere to affect the northern hemisphere yet. I'm thinking (maybe
incorrectly) that we have another six months to see any real effect from
those fires yet or until the spring solstice when the weather patterns do
their battling here in the Northern 40's (40-50 degrees north).

Herons are rather interesting to try and photogragh in my experience. They
are extremely sensitive to height. Stay really low and you can get pretty
close. If I am in a canoe I will scrunch way down inside it and make my
profile as low as possible. Another thing, if a Heron has spotted dinner
and is about ready to nab it, his/her circle of fear shrinks.
I'm thinking about heading over to Nebraska in March for the Sandhill Crane
migration. I will use a blind for that. They tend to be a bit nervous.
