This is an interesting article.
It says that in the past Olympus had relied on profits from their endoscope
sales to the extent that they did not have a strong need to succeed in new
venture. They are so perfectionist that they have difficulty putting new
products on the market quickly. Because the endoscope sales started
dropping in 93, they started changing the way they have been developing new
products with the appointment of a new president in that year.
With digital cameras, they were able to put the type of digital cameras
consumers are looking for in a relatively short time.
Next time I go to my local camera store I'll make a point of looking at the
Olympus digital cameras and the printer there. It is interesting to note
that at this store there is a salesman who has worked there for 35 years,
and he handles both the OM2000 and the Olympus digital cameras! He is
familiar with all or most of the past and present Olympus cameras.
